Dear Maintainer, The muttrc man page documents the default value for the "sort" setting as "date". Debian's custom Muttrc.patch overrides this to set sort=threads. If we are overriding this default, maybe the man page could be updated as well to reflect that. But I'm not sure if there is a good reason to override this default in the first place. What do you think about removing this debian-specific set sort=threads override?
That default sort setting predates me, I believe; I'm not sure we want to break the default behavior though, but it is true that the expectation for new users might be the default Mutt behavior. If we keep the Debian behavior, for sure we should update the man page, I'll think about it, I'm probably more inclined to switch to the standard mutt behavior now.

I agree that switching to the standard mutt behavior seems to be the better option. No need to complicate things with a debian-specific patch for this user configuration. But if others have a strong opinion on this in the other direction, maybe we will hear from them.
