Dear Maintainer,

I've been experiencing 2 consistent, reproducible problems on my laptop since upgrading to a 7.0 kernel. The first (shutdown hang) is the most serious, sometimes leading to small dataloss issues due to the unclean shutdown.

The second is the internal display failing to come back up after sleeping, as described in https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/i915/kernel/-/work_items/15992 and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2464080. I mention this because it seems plausibly related based on the stack traces included below.

In addition to the automatically generated information, here are logs from my last shutdown that show multiple errors and stack traces from the i915 module.

I've actually been running 7.1.3 from sid since this morning. It seems to
have fixed the shutdown hang, but the screen not coming back after suspend
is still an issue. I'll try to do some more systematic testing and log
fetching later / tomorrow.

So as I understand the shutdown hang is resolved but we still have the
i915 related issue.

If you can trigger this still with 7.1.5-1 now in unstable (which was
a bigger update), can you please report the remaining issue to
upstream following

and then report back here the upstream issue you created for tracking
it?

commit is queued as well for the next 7.1.y update, I'm attaching the

Thanks for all of the guidance!

I actually started running the experimental 7.2 kernel yesterday and I
_think_ it fixed the issue, presumably due to the attached patch. I'm going
to switch over to a patched 7.1.5 kernel to see if it is indeed the
attached patch that is the fix.

(It's difficult to be certain that it's fixed without a few days of usage,
so I'll check in again after a better level of confidence.)

Alright, I've been running the patched 7.1.5 kernel for about 36 hours now
and it seems to resolve all of the issues. I've been through numerous sleep
and wake cycles, numerous monitor sleep events, and I've had zero crashes.
Based on having previously run the unpatched 7.1.5 kernel, it seems safe to
me to say that 062499cc4813 fixes it.

Thanks for all the help here -- let me know if there's more I can do to
help test, verify, or ship.

in 7.2-rc1 (which is first in 7.2~rc3-1~exp1).

As mentioned this is as well queued for the upcoming (should be today)
7.1.6 release, I will try to make sure we close the bug a second time
