Dear Maintainer,


I found two problems when quitting an application from its GNOME dash icon.

Case 1: The application running and is pinned to the dash

1. Open a pinned application.
2. Press and hold its dash icon until the context menu appears.
3. Select “Quit”.

The application closes, but the icon becomes attached to the mouse cursor with
a small add/cross symbol.
However, GNOME still seems to keep the icon action active. Pressing either the
left or right mouse button launches the application again.
Pressing Escape cancels this action and prevents the application from
reopening.

Expected result:
After selecting “Quit”, the application should close and the icon interaction
should also be cancelled. The next mouse click should not reopen the
application.


Case 2: The application is running and is not pinned to the dash

1. Open an application that is not pinned to the dash.
2. Press and hold on the unpinned running app icon until the context menu
appears.
3. Select “Quit”

The application closes and its icon disappears from the dash, but the dragged
icon remains stuck on the screen.
The stuck icon stays above other windows and is also visible on the lock
screen.

Restarting GNOME Shell with Alt+F2 and then typing “r” removes it.

Expected result:
After selecting “Quit”, GNOME Shell should cancel the drag operation and
completely remove the temporary icon.

System information:
- Debian 13 (Trixie)
- GNOME Shell 48.7
- X11 session The session changed automatically from Wayland to X11 after I
installed the NVIDIA proprietary driver. I did not manually select X11.
- NVIDIA driver: 550.163.01
- No GNOME Shell extensions enabled
