Hi,
the watch file for this package is not working (any more since Github changed
their API a couple of years ago). I'm attaching a working watch file (using
watch file format 5).
If you agree I would volunteer to prepare a NMU for this package by using a
Git repository in Debian team on Salsa.
Kind regards
Andreas.
Thanks; yes, go ahead with the NMU. (Keep me posted on how it works, please, I've never done one and would like to know!)
Hi David, wow, that was a quick response! Thanks a lot for your great cooperation. Am Mon, Jul 20, 2026 at 03:26:07PM +0200 schrieb David Given: I have created https://salsa.debian.org/debian/ufiformat which includes the patch for the watch file and the result of lintian-brush which fixes some lintian issues for you. Having a package on Salsa has several advantages, for instance you can have CI like this https://salsa.debian.org/debian/ufiformat/-/pipelines/1133041 I have not found you on Salsa. If you have some login there please tell me the login name to grant you permissions on this repository. If not please create a login. For SPAM protection means this is a manual process which might last 24-48h or so. Please let me know once this is done. Regarding NMUs you might like to read https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#non-maintainer-uploads-nmus However, NMUs are appropriate in case the maintainer is not able to respond for whatever reason. It somehow feels wrong if you answer that promptly. I rather wonder whether you might be open for maintenance in the Debian Commons team as suggested here: https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2026/05/msg00105.html If you agree to this I can easily do a team upload. This would be my prefered solution since it is the easiest way of collaboration. If you like this I can happily do the same for wordgrinder and see what I can do for the open RC bug. Thanks again for your quick response Andreas.
Hello, The issue is that I touch Debian stuff so rarely that I have to relearn how it all works each time, and of course the state of the art with packaging keeps moving on --- my packages were always built locally with debuild and cowbuilder and then uploaded to mentors.debian.org, which I know is not the way to do it now. For something like ufiformat where there are no upstream releases, I agree that Debian Commons sounds like an excellent idea --- the only issues will be occasionally updating stuff as the standards change. If you're willing to get it set up on salsa and do the configuration, that'd be fantastic. I've registered but as you said I'll have to wait for the approval. Re wordgrinder: I wasn't able to get to the rc bug in time and I believe it's been removed from testing? In addition there's a new 0.9 upstream version more or less ready; I just need to do some final tweaks, which are taking a while. The new build process is rather different and I suspect it'll need repackaging from scratch, which is no bad thing as it'll make me figure out the modern processes.
We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of
ufiformat, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive.
A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is
attached.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 1142480@bugs.debian.org,
and the maintainer will reopen the bug report if appropriate.

Hi David, Am Tue, Jul 21, 2026 at 12:07:00AM +0200 schrieb David Given: Well, it makes sense to use gbp-buildpackage and use cowbuilder in a chroot but as long as you get Build-Depends correctly this is fine. I personally do not check mentors.debian.org. When I'm sponsoring I require sponsees to have a repository on Salsa and I build the package from there. This is my *personal* preference and I have good reasons for this but there is no "way to do it now". I've uploaded ufiformat in Debian Commons team - just let me know your Salsa login once it is accepted. Yes, it is removed from testing as you can see here https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/wordgrinder But that's no issue at all - it will migrate back once the bug either in this or the new version is fixed. Should not be that hard by adjusting the path to zlib.h. Please let me know if you need help to create a Git repository of the wordgrinder history. Its a no-brainer for me and you will not learn much in doing so since there is no other package you need to do this. Kind regards Andreas.
