On some hosts I noticed that auto-apt-proxy runs into a timeout and never
yields a proxy even though there is an apt-cacher-ng on the default gateway.
Using htop I saw it recursing into itself through apt-helper.

Adding Acquire::http::Proxy-Auto-Detect= in the hit() function fixes this and
now it yields a working proxy.

It already passes `-o Acquire::http::Proxy=DIRECT`. It probably does not
hurt to also pass `-o Acquire::http::Proxy-Auto-Detect=`, but do you
have any idea why this happens only on some hosts? What do these some
hosts have different?

It happened on IPv6-only hosts with static config using networkd, but also on
others. I can look into it in more detail after my vacation, if needed.

But with the recursion removed it was fixed everywhere in my fleet.

We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of
auto-apt-proxy, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive.
