Hi, the latest upstream version jdk8u502-ga of OpenJDK 8 was just released [1][2] and finally includes the necessary bits and pieces to allow the Zero build on riscv64. Could you update openjdk-8 to this version so we can bootstrap it on riscv64? Thanks, Adrian
Hi Adrian, Do we really want to have openjdk-8 on riscv64? opendjk-8 is forced out of testing and is one of the package preventing the removal of GTK 2. Regards Aurelien
Hi Aurelien, Since openjdk-8 is restricted to unstable, I think it won't hurt to enable it on riscv64 as well. openjdk-8 is useful to run some application that are incompatible with newer OpenJDK versions. Adrian
Sure, can do, but other than enable the arch in the arch list, I cannot do much, you’ll also have to figure out how to bootstrap, given it needs itself (or, in theory, openjdk-7) for that and cannot be built with even openjdk-11. I’ve heard rumours that it could possibly work with Gtk+3, not that anyone could possibly *want* that, which I need to investigate. And for bootstrapping things (e.g. the Kotlin line), but these probably can be done on amd64. The package is also ready for builds on wheezy/precise and up in theory, and I build for buster/trusty and up in my own repo and PPA, and ELTS builds for stretch (and used to for jessie). It’s unstable-only in Debian because we don’t want to have to security-support more than one release per Debian release, which is sane, and because having it in sid is useful as staging ground, for QA, to have a common base to build from, etc. I’ll try to get to it on the weekend. bye, //mirabilos

Before 2026/vote_002 is decided, I’ll rather put my remaining spare time into bugfixing, rather than updating software versions. (There’s actually at least one specific package I do have in mind.) If you would prefer to update src:openjdk-8 yourself, be my guest. I am sorry this comes after I’ve said I’d try to get it in but this looming over the project refocuses priorities. bye, //mirabilos
Control: owner -1 ! Control: tags -1 pending I'm working on this. I've added riscv as I thought was needed in debian/rules, but if I missed something, I'll take patches. Cheers, Emilio
