The openslide-formats.3 man page, compiled from various parts of the
OpenSlide website, is out of date. Multiple properties and slide formats
are missing and the existing text is stale.

In addition, the package descriptions contain a list of supported slide
formats, which is out of date.

Hi Benjamin,

Benjamin Gilbert, on 2026-09-05:

Thanks for the nudge, I have refreshed the manual and added some
gating in the build procedure in order to avoid running into
version delta with newer upstream releases. Changes are
available on Salsa, but I'd rather wait for the migration to
forky to complete before proceeding to upload, so as to not
interfere with the ongoing transition #1146803. If all goes
well, this should only be the matter of a couple of days.

I updated the format list. I also updated the wording this way,
if that helps making delta accumulation less problematic:

	- This library currently supports:
	+ This library supports notably:

Would that work for you?

Have a nice day, :)

Great, thanks. It appears your changes did not include adding docs
for the newer formats, which would be worth doing as well.

Yup, sounds good.

Hi Benjamin,

Benjamin Gilbert, on 2026-09-06:

I see what you mean. I added the missing parts to d/rules and
the xsl template to fetch specifications for the four missing
formats argos, dicom, huron and zeiss. I tried to simplify a
bit the d/rules to make it easier to read in the long run, I
notably isolated the formats list. The manual is refreshed and
pushed on Salsa. From quick stroll through it, the missing
parts should be there now.

Have a nice day, :)

Closes: 1146814 1146883
Changes:
 openslide (4.0.1+dfsg-2) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * d/rules: simplify and complement formats fetching.
This change adds support for fetching specifications for argos, dicom,
huron and zeiss formats, and makes the listing a little more readable,
with less duplicates in the d/rules file.
   * d/openslide-formats.3.xml: add support for new formats.
This change adds support to inject the argos, dicom, huron and zeiss
     formats into the xsl template.
   * d/openslide-formats.3: refresh the manual page to openslide 4.0.1
and also document support for argos, dicom, huron and zeiss file
     formats. (Closes: #1146814)
   * d/control: update file formats support list.
The change includes a subtle wording change in order to make the delta
between the package description and the exhaustive list of supported
     format less problematic.
   * d/rules: ensure openslide-format(3) version consistency.
This change implements a check at an early stage of the package
construction, in order to make sure that there is no delta between the
new upstream version and its shipped documentation.
   * d/rules: provide a clean-man target to clean things up.
This is a useful shortcut to clear artifacts downloaded during a
     refresh of openslide-formats(3) manual.
   * d/control: provide complete libopenslide-dev dependencies.
     (Closes: #1146883)
   * d/t/run-pkgconf: new autopkgtest.
This change introduces, and enables via d/t/control, the script
run-pkgconf that ensures the list of dependencies of the package
     libopenslide-dev is complete.
