i've recently found out that gnuserv has major issues with the most
recent emacsen (most likely related to the "native" compilation mess).
upstream has abandoned gnuserv quite a few years ago.
as far as i can tell everything that you could do with gnuserv can now
be done pretty cleanly with emacsclient, which is maintained and part
of the mainstream emacs releases.
as there are sufficient alternatives for this bit of buggy lisp
i'd like to stop maintaining gnuserv and would suggest we don't
ship it in future debian releases.
