The version 1.19.0+ds1-2 of golang-github-klauspost-compress (mentioning the version as it might be fixed in the interim) errors out with the following | Command: dpkg-buildpackage --sanitize-env -us -uc | dpkg-buildpackage: error: cannot parse maintainer email address "Andrew Lee (李健秋) <ajqlee@debian.org>" from changelog entry If I remove the brackets and the content inside of it, I see this error no longer. This would, however, mean that all recent uploads of Andrew or any contributor with this kind of signature will FTBFS and will end up triggering a mass wave of re-uploads. This is a regression in dpkg and should be fixed. I would understand if there is a plan to not allow fields like mentioned above and the above error to be legit but it should still really be done in a phased manner with MBF etc. Best, Nilesh
Hi! Indeed! I've got a small fix/workaround locally, that I'll push in a bit and do a release after that (within today). The main problem is that the dpkg Perl code has not been made fully Unicode aware, and then we have this kind of encoding/decoding problems. There was at least some partial attempt in the past, but it got reverted due to regressions (AFAIR), but at some point I'll need to go through the entire code base and check all inputs and outputs so that we are opening things in the expected UTF-8 encoding and represented internally as Unicode, etc, which I've postponed due to being tedious and a potential big source of nasty regressions. :/ (See also #1060320.) Thanks, Guillem
Hi! Bug #1147134 in package dpkg reported by you has been fixed in the dpkg/dpkg.git Git repository. You can see the changelog below, and you can check the diff of the fix at: https://git.dpkg.org/cgit/dpkg/dpkg.git/diff/?id=c846a6178 When we have UTF-8 encoded strings the regex was complaining about invalid encoding, because the internal representation of those strings is not Unicode. Instead of trying to fix the encodings in all input and output boundaries, which would be the most correct thing to do, but has the most potential for regressions, we mark the regex to only match on the ASCII-range, so that we can ignore any UTF-8 characters. Closes: #1147134
We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of
dpkg, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive.
A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is
attached.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 1147134@bugs.debian.org,
and the maintainer will reopen the bug report if appropriate.
