test suite scrapping the output from «dpkg-source --version» which has
recently changed.

Please either adapt the code to avoid scrapping the output, by for
example using instead the equivalent of:

  $ perl -MDpkg -E 'say $Dpkg::PROGVERSION'

Where this should be guaranteed to match the version from the tool due
to the strict dependency on the modules, but might not be the case on
non-Debian based systems (although that is unsupported and would
probably cause buggyness in the code used).

Or by adapting the matching on the new output.

I haven't investigated yet but this seems like a thing that could
happen, indeed.  For example, some of our test cases include checks
that the output (eg email reports to users) contain (only!) the
expected output, and that means they can be a bit brittle.

So I will do this.

To make sure I DTRT, can you confirm which version of dpkg{,-dev} I
ought to be testing with?

Starting with dpkg-dev 1.23.8 the output is like this:

  $ dpkg-source --version | head -1
  dpkg-source version 1.23.11

With earlier versions the output is like this:

  $ dpkg-source --version | head -1
  Debian dpkg-source version 1.22.22.

Ah, forgot to mention, for the future if there's interest I could add a
--robot modifier to dpkg-source, like it is supported in dpkg, to have
machine readable output for --version, like this:

  $ dpkg --robot --version; echo
  1.23.11
  $

Thanks.  It might be useful to do that for *some* of the calls
to --version in dgit.git, but I don't think i want to do that for (for
example) the call that appears in tag2upload transcripts.  Eg, here:

I think the t2u user wants something "obvious" here and we don't want
to add noise or weird output modes here.

And given that we have a test case checking the output in the email is
as expected, this is always going to break if src:dpkg changes the
output significantly.  I don't see a good way round this other than
for me to update the test suite promptly when this situation arises.
src:dgit typically migrates quickly, so I shouldn't delay you by very
much.

FTR I will update the test suite so that it works with both forms of
output from src:dpkg - we need that for backports etc. etc.
