Dear maintainer:
I'm getting persistent build failures when trying any of the above packages because autobuilder hangs.
I'm filing a single report because this is likely a bug in one of the build-dependencies,
but I don't know which one. (I request help to determine which one and reassign
accordingly).
This is how the build typically fails, the example is taken from "src:adql":

and at this point I have to kill dpkg-buildpackage by hand, because sbuild is not brave enough to do so.
Most probably this started to happen somewhere between 2026-09-06 and 2026-09-13.
I've put sample build logs here for reference:
https://people.debian.org/~sanvila/build-logs/202609/
Thanks.

It looks like this is a recurring problem in gradle. I found the following references: https://github.com/gradle/gradle/issues/2657 https://github.com/gradle/gradle/issues/4981 So, I'm doing the above reassign. [ Note: I've added src:picard-tools, which also fails but it was not in the list ] Thanks.
affects 1147930 - src:darcula thanks Note: The above one also FTBFS, but it does not make the autobuilder to hang like the others.
affects 1147930 + src:darcula src:procyon thanks Sorry, I was mistaken about darcula. It just happens that sometimes it fails in a way that dpkg-buildpackage has to be killed by hand, and sometimes it fails in just a few minutes. Therefore, the affects field means "packages which have failed in this way at least once". Thanks.
Hello. The following packages, which I've tried to build 10 times each, build ok again: adql android-platform-tools-apksig barclay capsule-maven-nextflow capsule-nextflow darcula dom4j gatk-fermilite gkl htsjdk igv libhamcrest-java libhttp-nio-java libjdom2-intellij-java milib opentest4j picard-tools vdjtools xgboost-predictor-java This one, however, still fails: procyon but I think that's because of the new Java 25 as reported in #1108588. Therefore I believe this is fixed and I'm closing it myself. Thanks a lot!

Hi, Reopening: milib still hangs with gradle 4.6-2 in a clean unstable chroot today: java.lang.ClassCastException: class org.slf4j.helpers.NOPLoggerFactory cannot be cast to class org.gradle.internal.logging.slf4j.OutputEventListenerBackedLoggerContext /usr/share/java now has both slf4j-api 1.7.36 and 2.0.19, because logback pulls in libslf4j2-java. Gradle picks the test workers' slf4j jar as the first match in an unsorted directory listing, so whether it hangs depends on the filesystem. That is probably why your builds passed. Fix: https://salsa.debian.org/java-team/gradle/-/merge_requests/14 It links the 1.x jars into /usr/share/gradle/lib, which is searched first. milib and adql build with it. Thanks, Juan

* Link slf4j-api and jul-to-slf4j from libslf4j-java into
/usr/share/gradle/lib. The test workers look both up by file name
pattern in lib/ and then in /usr/share/java, where they took the 2.x
jars of libslf4j2-java whenever the directory listed those first,
then died on a ClassCastException while Gradle waited forever
(Closes: #1147930).
