Dear maintainers of Plymouth,

find attached a .debdiff that lets Plymouth in Debian switch to the
virtual 'debian-theme' Plymouth theme managed by the
`update-alternatives --config desktop-theme` command.

The advantage of this change is that Plymouth will not need to be
updated anymore with every Debian release cycle regarding its default
theme. This will all be handled by desktop-base once the attached
patch gets applied.

Also, a desktop-theme change via update-alternatives will
automatically show an effect in the Plymouth theming.

For those who want to detach the chosen plymouth theme from the rest
of the desktop-theme, they can always manually configure their
favourite Plymouth theme via plymouth-set-default-theme.

To return to desktop-theme controlled Plymouth theming, users (with
this .debdiff applied) can execute `plymouth-set-default-theme -r -R`.

Unfortunately, to make the 'debian-theme' Plymouth theme fully
functional, #1148027 (src:desktop-base) needs to be resolved first.

I opened a bug upstream about this years ago, maybe that could be the

Also, ubuntu has its own patch for this, did you look at how they are
doing it so we can reduce the delta between them and us?
