WebKitGTK can no longer work on big-endian architectures as a result of an
upstream move from Cairo to Skia, as announced in
<https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2026/09/msg00139.html> and #1148038.
This is one of the leaf packages that will need to be removed from s390x
as a result.

------------------- Reason ------------------- RoQA; depends on webkit2gtk which no longer supports big-endian ---------------------------------------------- Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug. The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next dinstall run at the earliest. Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is really needed, please contact them if this should be the case. Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package was superseded by another one. The version of this package that was in Debian prior to this removal can still be found using https://snapshot.debian.org/. Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you have further comments please address them to 1148853@bugs.debian.org. The full log for this bug can be viewed at https://bugs.debian.org/1148853 This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing ftpmaster@ftp-master.debian.org. The fix for this package would probably to stop building the
webkit-dependant packages on s390x, but keep other plugins there.

As mentioned on the list I'm not sure how relevant those packages are on
s390x, but Geany being an IDE I could imagine someone running it on the
target architecture, even if it would only be an emulated environment.

In any case, I guess the source could be patched to disable the
problematic dependencies (and assorted feature) on the architectures
where it's needed.

Colomban

successfully builds on the s390x buildd will re-introduce the subset of
its binary packages that are still built.

I suggested complete removal from s390x because geany-plugins is a leaf
package (nothing depends on it), and I didn't want to impose extra
time-sensitive work on maintainers of leaf packages like this for the
benefit of a type of machine that probably neither of us will ever see!

The change you'd need would look something like this:
https://salsa.debian.org/freewx-team/wxwidgets3.2/-/commit/cbca9a8ba3d6421f5bd645bd02c43cdff554ae4b

I don't think owners of room-sized mainframes generally run any sort of
GUI on them at all, development tool or otherwise.
