The removal of funm.m is intentional. According to the funm documentation:

     11.1.0, so funm.m will be removed from the linear-algebra package if that

At package build time, the tests in funm.m are bypassed by setting the DH_OCTAVE_EXCLUDE_TEST environment variable in debian/rules. This variable is used by the dh_octave_check command, which in turn is used by autodep8/autopktest.

However, autopkgtest ignores this environment variable. Therefore, dh-octave must implement an alternative mechanism for excluding unit tests. I am hereby reassigning this bug report to dh-octave.

I had completely forgotten that dh_octave_check already has a mechanism for setting the DH_OCTAVE_EXCLUDE_TEST environment variable at both package building and autopkgtest execution times, via the debian/checkvars file. I am hereby reverting the bug assignment I made yesterday and I will soon upload a fixed version of the octave-linear-algebra package.
