Dear maintainer:

During a rebuild of all packages in unstable, this package failed to build.

Below you will find the last part of the build log (probably the most
relevant part, but not necessarily). If required, the full build log
is available here:

https://people.debian.org/~sanvila/build-logs/202609/

About the archive rebuild: The build was made on virtual machines from AWS,
using sbuild and a reduced chroot with only build-essential packages.

If you cannot reproduce the bug please contact me privately, as I
am willing to provide ssh access to a virtual machine where the bug is
fully reproducible.

If this is really a bug in one of the build-depends, please use
reassign and add an affects on src:blitz++, so that this is still
visible in the BTS web page for this package.

Thanks.

Hi Santiago and Hilmar.

The error messages strongly suggest that this is texinfo issue.
However I cannot tell whether it is due to a bug in texinfo itself
or to the texinfo document to compose ?
Hilmar can provide further insight ?
Thanks in advance,
Jerome

Hello,

I can confirm the build failure. I can further confirm that downgrading
automake to 1:1.18.1-4 (the version from testing) solves the issue. So I
guess there is again an issue in the texinfo.tex, which is pulled in by
automake.

As next step I would try to use the latest version of texinfo.tex from
https://https.git.savannah.gnu.org/git/texinfo.git/ , i.e. building a
new automake package, w/ texinfo.tex patched and test again.

Could you take over?

Hilmar

Hello,
Upgrading the texinfo.tex to that one from the texinfo repo does not
solve the issue, meanwhile downgrading to that one from texinfo in
Debian unstable does. I guess we have to go deep and find an issue in
the texinfo.tex from savannah, provided the blitz++ document is
syntactically OK (which I would assume for now).

Hello,

here is my minimal texinfo file, which can't be compiled any more using
a recent texinfo.tex file (younger than "2025-10-25.20"). This is the
latest version I'm aware of. I guess later versions will work too, but
currently I don't know better:

\input texinfo @c -*-texinfo-*-
@setfilename blitz.info

@section Laplacian (@math{@nabla ^2}) operators

Hello automake maintainer,
[1]. It seems the decision to pull a texinfo.tex file from the git repo
wasn't a good one.

Anyway: the issue is in the automake package, I leave it up to you
either to roll forward the texinfo.tex or backwards.

Hello automake maintainer,

I can confirm that building blitz++ using the latest released
texinfo.tex [1] works fine.
