Hi. Sorry for the reopening, but I'm still getting the same error as
before:

test-subprocess-auth.sh FAILED: script returned non-zero

I've put recent build logs in the same directory as before, for

The failure is 100% reproducible here. I've tested it on the AWS
machines where I usually do archive rebuilds, which have 1 cpu
and 2 cpus, and also in my desktop computer, which has 4 cpus,
using dpkg-buildpackage inside a directory chroot.

I assume this must be something subtle. Because of cases like this one
which happen from time to time is why I always offer a VM to reproduce
if required, please contact me privately if you need it.

I tried to figure out what's going on.

On a system where it fails:

dpkg-buildpackage -> fails
find . -type d | xargs chmod g-w
dpkg-buildpackage -> this time it works

Looks like some check should be relaxed. In Debian, the default umask
changed in trixie, so it is certainly a problem that a simple
dpkg-buildpackage is unable to build the package.

Thanks for debugging this and pinpointing the directory permissions issue.
You are right: the test is poorly designed, as it depends on the permissions of the build directory and its parents.

As a first step, I will disable the test to unblock builds.
I will then redesign it from scratch so that it tests the intended behaviour independently of the build environment.
