Dear maintainer:

During a rebuild of all packages in unstable, this package failed to build.

Below you will find the last part of the build log (probably the most
relevant part, but not necessarily). If required, the full build log
is available here:

https://people.debian.org/~sanvila/build-logs/202610/

About the archive rebuild: The build was made on virtual machines from AWS,
using sbuild and a reduced chroot with only build-essential packages.

If you cannot reproduce the bug please contact me privately, as I
am willing to provide ssh access to a virtual machine where the bug is
fully reproducible.

If this is really a bug in one of the build-depends, please use
reassign and add an affects on src:scotch, so that this is still
visible in the BTS web page for this package.

Thanks.

The error "Deprecated variable: schizo_proxy" is Bug#1148924,
outside scotch's control.

The error "Deprecated variable: rmaps_default_mapping_policy" can be
easily fixed in debian/rules. PRTE_MCA_rmaps_default_mapping_policy is
to be updated to PRTE_MCA_mapby

But then the error "mapping request contains an unrecognized qualifier"
I do not understand. The same variable PRTE_MCA_rmaps_default_mapping_policy
(or PRTE_MCA_mapby) is used in other packages with no
such problem. ":oversubscribe" is the correct syntax,
c.f. https://github.com/open-mpi/ompi/issues/8955#issuecomment-846272943

Running the test manually passes fine without this
"unrecognized qualifier" error.

I have no idea what to do with this error,
unless OMPI_MCA_rmaps_base_oversubscribe=true works as an alternative

The weird error "unrecognized qualifier" appears to have passed.
Perhaps it was a mismatch during openmpi/pmix/prrte updates.
The tests reported in this bug are passing now with openmpi 6.0.0~rc2-2

(there may be an issue with test_arch_deco_1 to be reported upstream)

I must qualify the "success" I reported in the previous message.

I get a successful build if I build locally on my own machine.

But I still get build failure (including the mysterious "unrecognized
qualifier") if I build in a chroot (pbuilder).

Hi.

Note that version 7.0.15-3 did this change:

PRTE_MCA_rmaps_default_mapping_policy -> PRTE_MCA_mapby

only in debian/tests/test-scotch, but in debian/rules
the old env variable is still being used.

(I have not checked if doing so in debian/rules improves things,
I would expect a cleaner build log at a minimum).

Thanks.

Hi. I confirm that doing the change in debian/rules makes dh_auto_test
to succeed (I'm testing inside a chroot).

Hmm, no, that's not true, but I finally found the reason why it did
not work, and it's quite funny:

The comment after the variable value makes the variable to be defined
with trailing spaces, which is confusing for mpiexec.

The following minimal Makefile shows the effect:
---------------------------------------------------- export PRTE_MCA_mapby=:oversubscribe # some comment all: mpiexec -n 2 echo hello ---------------------------------------------------- And this is what happens: $ make mpiexec -n 2 echo hello -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The mapping request contains an unrecognized qualifier: Request: :oversubscribe Please check your request and try again. Remember, multiple qualifiers must be separated by a colon (':'). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- make: *** [Makefile:4: all] Error 29 I've just made a team upload to fix that. Thanks.

Good catch, thanks Santiago.
I sometimes forget how limited the makefile syntax is.
