* Package name : whatsapp-desktop Version : 1.9.12 Upstream Author : Abdallah Shehawey <shehawey9@gmail.com> * URL : https://github.com/abdallah-shehawey/whatsapp-desktop * License : GPL-3.0-or-later (application), GPL-3.0-only (artwork), CC0-1.0 (AppStream metadata) Programming Lang: JavaScript Description : independent desktop client for WhatsApp Web WhatsApp Web in a dedicated window with system tray integration, desktop notifications, themes, configurable fonts and privacy controls. It requires an existing WhatsApp account and an Internet connection. The project is not affiliated with Meta or WhatsApp. I am the upstream author and intend to maintain the application package. I have prepared source-only Debian packaging and would appreciate review and eventual upload sponsorship once the runtime prerequisite is resolved. My goal is installation from the official archives, including a future Ubuntu import. This application proposal installs JavaScript and data and depends on a separately packaged Electron >= 40, < 41. Its build does not run npm, download Electron or ship a prebuilt runtime. The application package builds and its tests pass in a clean Ubuntu 24.04 environment; metadata and the staged launcher are checked during the build. Important prerequisite: Electron is not currently packaged in Debian/Ubuntu's official archive. Runtime RFP #842420 remains open. I have not completed Electron's source packaging, and this ITP should remain blocked on that work. The published artifacts are an unsigned application packaging proposal, not an accepted archive upload or a currently installable official package.
