pcscd running as dedicated user pcscd cannot access smartcards when dependency libccid is an older version that leaves ownership of smartcard devices as root:root and not root:pcscd as newer versions do. User experience is that upgrading pcscd breaks all access to USB-connected smartcard readers. According to https://blog.apdu.fr/posts/2025/10/pcscd-runs-as-pcscd-user/ the corresponding change was made in libccid The pcscd package should thus depend on libccid >= 1.7.0, or at least recommend it.
