cups-pdf regressed cross building. It now uses the build architecture
compiler as a make default via $(CC) in debian/rules. Initializing the
variable via dpkg's buildtools.mk is the easiest way to fix this. Please
consider applying the attached patch.

Hi,

In rare cases, the change can break things. To avoid such breakage, dpkg
introduced something like debhelper compatibility levels. You can find
more about them in man dpkg-build-api. Once you bump to api 1 or later,
default.mk includes buildtools.mk.
