rdesktop has been marked officially dead upstream in https://github.com/rdesktop/rdesktop/commit/f8a478568bc61ad4652739440cac409da1913474

There is a fork at https://github.com/marcofortina/rdesktop that was
very active in May 2026.

 Yeah, this is known.
 Well, it isn't a fork as I understand it. Its release text states
[1]: "this maintenance release collects a large amount of [...] work
from the actively maintained fork".
Do you know which actively maintained fork this refers to?

I think you are misreading/overcomplicating this. The 1.9.1 release on
https://github.com/marcofortina/rdesktop/releases/tag/v1.9.1 simply
collects the work in the fork https://github.com/marcofortina/rdesktop
in a release.

The "About" on https://github.com/marcofortina/rdesktop states:
 Actively maintained fork of rdesktop • Original project is unmaintained
 and has security issues

 Which is tons of commits from 25th of May, nothing before and nothing
later which is five months now. But let's hope he will make more
