src/, h5fc in fortran/src/, h5c++ in c++/src/) when it finds pkg-config
(H5_HAVE_PKGCONFIG). The source package does not Build-Depend on pkgconf.
In sid another build dependency currently pulls it in, so the build
works. Where nothing does, configure prints

We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of
hdf5, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive.
