Dear Maintainer, This is a followup on #1150979 which was rightfully judged to contain a lot of LLM generated content. This was because i tried to solve it at first on my own with some LLM help because I am a linux novice and also i wanted to provide as much information to you as possible to resolve this issue. So here is my hand only written version of what happened. # TLDR Suspend either causes a reboot or freezes on wakeup. Unloading the igc drivers seems to fix that. # What led up to the situation? Suspending the machine. Be that automatic suspend afer some time of inactivity or manual suspend. # What exactly did you do (or not do)? What was the outcome of this action? So on my machine there seem to be 2 sleep modes i can select; . s2idle - deep ### Selecting `s2idle` causes the machine to reboot while suspending. The machine does that on its own without mouse or keyboard input. What happens is: After manually or automatic inactivity suspending: - The screen goes dark - The fans turn off - after what feels like 1-3 seconds - the fans automatically start again - debian starts like from a reboot and the previous scession is lost ### Selecting `deep` causes the machine to hang while waking up from suspending What happens: After manually or automatic inactivity suspending: - The screen goes dark - The fans turn off and keep off - After mouse or keyboard input the fans start again and some LEDs of the computer - The machine gets stuck and the screen stays black - switching to an alternative screen or console with with `Ctrl + Alt + F*` does not work. ### Disabling igc Then with the help of an LLM that grinded through lots of journal logs, testing and simulations the igc drivers were manually disabled/unloaded with: ```bash sudo modprobe -r igc ``` Then suspend was tried again and the machine seemed to enter sleep properly, fans off, no automatic restart, waits for mouse or keyboard input and wakes up to the previous scession. So with the igc drivers loaded suspend and sleep does not work properly and resoves like outlined above. With the igc drivers unloaded suspend and sleep seems to work properly. ### Different kernels With the help of an LLM the following fixes were found that may be similar or connected to this issue: https://lkml.iu.edu/2204.3/02747.html https://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg1172413.html And this lead to trying out the kernel: 7.2.6, but the issue still remained. ### Other workaround Because i do not wat to leave the igc drivers unloaded for now i disabled any suspend mode by masking it with: ```bash sudo systemctl mask sleep.target suspend.target hibernate.target hybrid- sleep.target suspend-then-hibernate.target ``` preventing all that all together.
