vim 2:9.1.1230-2+deb13u1 (DSA-6600-1) has not been built for s390x in
trixie-security. The arch:all packages vim-common and vim-runtime were
updated, but the arch-dependent binaries (vim, vim-tiny, vim-nox, ...)
on s390x are still at 2:9.1.1230-2. Because of the strict versioned
dependency on vim-common, apt full-upgrade wants to remove vim on s390x
systems, and vim cannot be reinstalled without downgrading vim-common
and vim-runtime.
The cause is a test failure on big-endian systems. I cannot see the
security buildd logs, but I reproduced it on s390x in a clean trixie
sbuild chroot (unshare mode, mmdebstrap --variant=buildd, trixie +
trixie-security), building the unmodified

Build finished at 2026-11-03T09:24:45Z
No other test failed (a few flaky tests passed on retry).
The failing test and the sample swap files samples/recover-crash{1,2}.swp
were introduced by the backport of the fix for CVE-2026-28421 (#1129431),
a backport of upstream patch 9.2.0077.
The samples were generated on a little-endian system and are not valid
swap files on big-endian architectures.
Upstream fixed this right afterwards in patch 9.2.0132 ("tests:
Test_recover_corrupted_swap_file1 fails on be systems (after
v9.2.0077)"):
https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/ff16ebdb08bbefd41cdfcbdfc294bb67a151083f
That follow-up patch is missing from the trixie-security backport. It
only touches src/testdir/test_recover.vim and applies cleanly on top of
CVE-2026-28421.patch (offset 2 lines). The security fix in
src/memline.c is unaffected.
With the attached patch (upstream 9.2.0132 minus the version.c hunk)
added to debian/patches/series, the package builds successfully on
s390x and the whole test suite passes.
Please consider including it in a follow-up security or point release
upload so that the s390x binaries can be built.
Thanks!
