I enabled IPv6 in my server, and modified the init.d script to start with
"-6".

Now, trying to get my mail through an ssh tunnel to the server's port 110
doesn't work:

The preconnect command is:
	preconnect "ssh -C -f jordi@fanelli -L 11110:fanelli:110 sleep 60"

Removing "-6" from the startup script makes the tunnel work again.

There are two ways to make ssh work with IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time:
Either change /etc/init.d/ssh to give the -6 option to sshd, or
recompile ssh without the --with-ipv4-default configure option (apt-get
source ssh; edit the ./configure line in debian/rules; dpkg-buildpackage
-b). In any case, a ListenAddress statement in sshd_config is not
needed.

A disadvantage of the first solution is that sshd won't support IPv4 any
more. Normally, on connection attempts IPv4 addresses are mapped to IPv6
(by the kernel, I think), so IPv4 connections still work. But when IPv4
addresses have to be explicitely handled by sshd (e.g. to open a tunnel,
cf. bug #117318), this will fail. Everything works, though, when all
addresses are given as IPv6, which unfortunately can not be done
numerically in tunnel specifications because of the colons; you need to
have a DNS record or an /etc/hosts entry on the remote machine for the
IPv6 address.

It would be very nice for the future if either
 - the --with-ipv4-default option could be dropped from the binary package,
 - there was a second binary package without it,
 - or /etc/init.d/ssh was at least "officially configurable" for IPv6.

Btw., there are at least five different bug reports filed about this
problem; how about uniting them? Of course, fixing would be even
better ... :)
