If vrms provided usage statistics (a la popcon, but focused just on the local system)
for each non-free package, the admin could then decide if:
- nobody uses the package anyway
- it can be removed
- some people use the package occasionally
- since use is only occasional, perhaps there is a free alternative that will do
just as well for them?
- the package gets frequent use
- presumably because there isn't a better alternative, but frequent use confirms
the importance of finding a replacement
Could vrms simply use popcon for this purpose and merge the statistics into its
reports? (I take it that popcon doesn't *have* to report its stats back to the
popcon web site, a feature not all vrms users will want.)
Thanks,
