This problem is not version dependent... I have a Logitech MouseMan Plus
PS/2 mouse with 4 mouse buttons. This is an exotic model, it is the
predecessor of MouseMan Plus Wheel series. In X, it uses the same
protocol as MouseManPlusPS/2 and the fourth button is reported as fourth
button (same as the wheel-up "button" when using the Wheel model).
Unfortunately, if I use gpm and it's forwarder in "raw" mode with the
same X configuration (but /dev/gpmdata as source), the actions of button
4 are reported as button 2! I though, the raw mode would really not
modify any data, but this is apparently not true.

Gruss/Regards,
Eduard.

You might wish to try telling gpm to use the exps2 protocol?
