Hi,

I find it a little (but really, very little) annoying that I cannot choose
'Continue but don't send email' at that stage.
An 'm' (or similar, up to you to decide) option would be really good in case
I upgrade only a handful of packages and I dont want the collected
changelogs sent in an email to me.
Thanks a lot! :)

Best regards,

Csan

This sounds very much like #140251, where the policy could be different for
displaying already-seen changelogs depending on confirmation. Or are you
suggesting something different?

Quoting Matt Zimmerman <mdz@debian.org>:
I'll try to explain with some real-life scenario.
Today, I installed 10 packages one-by-one, and almost all of them had just a few
version updates, so I could read them all at installation time.
With apt-listchanges current behavior, that resulte in almost 10 new emails, and
in vain, since usually I send the changelogs in en email if the list of
changelogs is too long and I don't have the time to read thru it before I upgrade.
Say I have a grave bug on dpkg and a sechole fixing bug in another package, and
like 43 packages are about to be upgraded, so I _have to_ install the packages
ASAP, and skip the changelog list for reading later. That's why I have
apt-listchanges send the list in an email. However, in case I've read the list
at installation time, I don't want an email which I would delete right away
anyway...
I hope I could explain better this time...? :)

Maybe another very useful option could be 's' for 'Save the changelog list'.

Do you want to continue? [Y/n/m/s]? (m: mail, s: save list)

Csan

In that case, if you don't always want email, you can do this with the pager
frontend or browser frontend. Simply configure apt-listchanges to not send
mail, and if you want a copy of the changes, send it from the pager or
browser "mail your@address". In less(1), you would do this with "|!mail
address". You could define a key binding in less to do this with a single
keystroke.

If you want to be able to proceed with an upgrade without reading the
changelogs first, but still have a chance to review them, you might also
want to try the xterm-pager or xterm-browser frontends, which will allow you
to browse the changelogs while allowing the upgrade to continue.
