I have Logitech Pilot and I am helluva sure, it is vanilla PS/2-mouse. I
have attached output-files of "/etc/init.d/gpm strace".  Here is
permissions of /dev/psaux

crwx------    1 root     root      10,   1 huhti 21 06:30 /dev/psaux

Here is /etc/gpm.conf (created by debconf):

Hmmm... Why repeat_type is empty?

I think this is not normal:

-=*[ROOT ZSH]*=- root@heresy:/mnt/newroot # cat /proc/devices
Character devices:
162 raw

Block devices:
  1 ramdisk

I have devfs installed, but IIRC I had that problem before starting to
use devfs.
