I am posting to debian-user-german and since the introduction of
SpamAssassin, my mails don't get posted to the list any more. Some
reasons why this might be (and which should be fixed IMHO):

- I use a partly numerical FROM: address. (mail-YYMMDD@jensbenecke.de)
- I PGP-sign my mails.
- I have two lines of footer offering things for sale
  (because EPay is too expensive).


I'd appreciate if you could check this out. Several others have also
expressed concerns about this in the German Debian mailing list.

 It's not spamassassin eating the mails, but smartlist. You have the
 string 'mail' in the username part on your address, which makes it
 guess that mail is coming from a daemon. Look for 'FROM_DAEMON' in
 procmailrc(5).

 Smartlist was upgraded from ancient to a bit more recent version
 along with procmail around the same time when spamassassin was
 taken into use.

 This is more like a feature in smartlist.

In reference to bug# 145433, since the weekend of 04-06 April, 2003, I
find that although I can receive email from the debian-user list, none
of my posts to that list are accepted. Having checked with the list sub
page, I found reference to SA now silently dropping post(s) from
addresses that contain the string "master" (among others). I have had
the same email address for over 4 years and have been a subscriber to
debian user for the majority of that time and do not look forward to
having to acquire a "new" email address in order to post to debian-user.

Please advise as to how this can be solved.

Note: I am sending this message from another email address that I have,
from which I have attempted more than 4 times to subscribe to the same
list without success. I have followed the header instructions and
subscribed through the website, but after responding to the initial
confirmation message for ~this~ address "masdaley@nbnet.nb.ca", I
haven't received full confirmation of my subscription.

I can find little use in subscribing to a list that I am suddenly unable
to post to due to ~extremely~ strict SA and/or procmail filters.

Since submitting information regarding posting to debian-user (filter usage of mail list manager), I have attempted to subscribe to d-u with a different email address.

I have tried ~both~ the web subscription and email "request" method to no avail. Although I reply appropriately to requests for confirmation from the new address, I have in fact ~not~ been subscribed to d-u under the new address. I have made 5 - 10 separate attempts over the past week.

I find this difficult to accept. I am now in a position where I can ~read~ all posts (sent to my original email subscription address), but am unable to post with this address; I can also not seem to subscribe to d-u under another address from which I can also ~post~.

I understand that Debian is supposed to be concerned with the needs of the user. If nothing else, I ~am~ a Debian user and have been for some time.

Could someone, other than an automated responder, please respond with alternate suggestions \ instructions as to how I may be able to fully experience d-u as I once did, less than a month ago.

Fulfilling requests for manual subscription rather than fixing the software
puts us in a somewhat difficult position -- once we subscribe someone
manually, we also have to unsubscribe them manually. And furthermore, once
we do it for one person, it's only right to do it for the next one, and the
next one, and the next one...

I'm co-maintaining a debian system with another person, and we're using
the role account <hostmaster@...> as an alias to our individual mail
addresses, as a common contact address.

I just tried to subscribe to <debian-announce@lists.debian.org> and
<debian-announce@lists.debian.org> with that role account address, and I
got this:

I understand that daemon user names like <root@...> or <mail@...> are
prevented from messing with the Debian mailing lists, but why are role
accounts like <hostmaster@...> or <postmaster@...> forbidden to

Daemon user names are daemon user names, but role accounts are role
accounts.  Role account addresses should only ever be used by human
beings, so why are they forbidden?

Is it really necessary that I create an address like <hostmister@...> or
<all@hostmaster.mydomain> to circumvent that bad restriction?  Please
allow <...master@...> addresses to access the lists.
