Even for programs that don't use getopt or getopt_long, supporting
--help and --version is a good idea, as a quick, global way to get
version info and help.

    Hello Glenn,

    In general, I agree, but I think that's at the discretion of upstream.
I'll mention it, but if he's not willing to do so, I'm not sure I want to
maintain a patch to implement it.  I'll see what his reaction is first.
