How a Burn Casualty Became a Beauty Inspiration to Many
At age 9, a hot oil spill at her family's eatery left Shalom Nchom with severe burns on the face, head and neck. All the teasing and staring by peers and adults pushed her to depression and at age 13 she learned what make up can do to guard her from bullies. With time, she became a makeup pro, and the same kids who troubled her in school were soon extending her $5 to $25 for her makeup services.
She evolved from Shalom Nchom to Shalom Blac and became an inspiration to other women. The 20-year-old's recent video shows Shalom applying makeup to only half of her face. Before performing the skilful lesson, she shares how she has discovered to gain faith in herself, with and without the help of beauty products."You have to be grateful for what you have, because you never know what someone else may be going through," she reveals." Makeup is not the reason why I am happy. I'm joyful because I love myself."
Accomplishment of the human spirit is the ability to rise above our difficulties and not only survive, but thrive in the face of difficulty. No school can teach you to turn your disability into ability. It's about how the body acclimatises to the diversity. It's about having the spirit and the will not only to survive, but to overcome a handicap and win.
There has been another kind of accomplishment of the human spirit which people don’t talk about, which shows people having exceptional strength and perseverance to endure suffering and oppression enforced on them by heartless dictators. We are talking about a ruthless persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. Practitioners put up a peaceful opposition with their remarkable belief. Even when they are targeted for their organs and picked up for murder, they show an remarkable quiet fortitude which the perpetrators find upsetting!
Falun Dafa, once a very admired meditation system in China, was recognized by the regime for its benefits to humanity. Sadly, the discipline was outlawed in its country of origin in 1999 after its popularity was seen as a threat by the Chinese Communist government and has since been inhumanely persecuted. The practice consists of easy to learn, simple exercises for the body and is founded on integration to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. Persistent practice leads to a profound understanding of life and the universe, and a profound spiritual awareness. The discipline is followed by people in 114 countries and is progressively becoming a subject of study by scientists for its benefits benefits to physical and mental well-being.
The persecution in China is not only killing lives but suppressing the very principles which are fundamental to the health and well-being of all people all over the world.
