The new checksecurity package was previously bundled with cron and was
'important' priority. However, the new package is only 'optional' priority.
Admins coming from older versions of Debian might expect this functionality
to be included in a stock Debian installation and lowering its priority
will make new installations to not include it unless the admin notices
this change and includes the package.

Since check-security related scripts are part of the basic installation of
most GNU/Linux distributions (RedHat provides one, so does Mandrake and
SuSE) and also *BSD (OpenBSD, at least, does). It would make sense to make
this package priority 'important' too in Debian.

I'm currently working on checksecurity since it showed up as a candidate
for the Bug of the Day[1].  Before I come up with some formal ITS about
moving it to the Debian team on Salsa (where I've created a
repository[2] and fixed some of the bugs) I'm going through the list of
bugs and stumbled upon this one.  It was some time ago when you was not
the maintainer of this package that you filed the bug report.  Now you
are the maintainer and could fix the issue easily.  Any reason you might
have changed your mind?  Or do you think that the package really should be
"important" (which I tend to agree) - so I would simply do so in Git and
close the bug in d/changelog.
