i set my /etc/maildroprc to
DEFAULT="/var/mail/$LOGNAME�"

but it does not work for users with no home|unexistant|not readable

temporary failure. Command output: /usr/bin/maildrop: Unable to change to home directory

It needs $HOME for $HOME/.tmp, IIRC. And you can override the variable,
IIRC. How is this a bug?

Hi,

Very similar topic was discussed in

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=375589

Thus merging.  Anyway, upstream does not want to make this program to be
featureful to avoid security issues.  Debian needs to amke its own
judgement.
