when running whether i am in X or console, the machine would freeze up
when it was active. the machine has been up for 4 days now without a
hitch. usually when it was running the amount of disk i/o andload i got
earlier would have frozen the machine, but it hasn't. i've weeded out
any other possibility that might have caused this freezing behaviour.

i'm going to try the new version(s) to see if this freezing stops.

it seems that a certain misconfiguration of cuasing the freezes. there
should be some error detection for when the config is hanf edited, as i
do not run gpmconfig usually, but straight-edit the gpm.conf.

The initial reporter updated this bug to state that it was a manual
misconfiguration of the config file that caused his issues.

His request was for sanity checking of the values in gpm.conf
