Everyone knows /dev/hda5, but the new version is very confusing. It made setting up lilo harder. The first time I tried the installer it did not seem to recognize my network card and I had to reboot. The next time it worked okay. All in all a very good effort. I am normally a Slackware user so setting up nvidia, ide-scsi ... was doable on my own. I think the average knoppix, mepis, suse, mandrake, redhat user will still whine that all of that was not done for them. Thanks for your efforts.

So apparently it recognizes the FreeBSD bootloader okay. It seems like it would be problem though since the partitioning scheme with the BSDs is so foreign to linux. BSD has one big paritition with "slices" in it for what we would think of as normal partitions. Fdisk only sees the one partition but BSD sees the separate slices for /, swap and /usr. Not sure if that helps you at all. I might try reinstalling again if I get the chance and see if I can break anything for you. Scott
I wouldn't think this has anything to do with the installer so just ignore me if you want. The new install I have is pulling a RedHat on me. It clears my /etc/resolv.conf at each reboot. So I have to go in and put my dns in each time. Didn't think Debian usually did that sort of thing.
I wonder if it's dhcp-client doing that... the DNS options are coming back empty or something so it's creating a blank resolv.conf file? I think you should install 'resolvconf' and that it should be part of the base package set.

reopen 234470 thanks Detecting UFS partitions is not the same as detecting *BSD. os-prober (~1.42) did not detect FreeBSD partitions, so I had to write grub menu entries manually. os-prober detects the partition of old Debian only, no FreeBSD partition.
