Since quite some time now, xsm does not see any of the session-aware clients
I run (notably: galeon, xemacs, xchat). All of them are correctly seen and
restored on a woody box, but not on sarge. It is possible that it started
to have problems when I upgraded to 4.3.0, but I can't be sure of this.

retitle 254563 xbase-clients: [xsm] does not see any session-aware clients
thanks

Hi,

Can you please provide some more information about this problem?

1) Can you determine at least a ballpark figure of when this functionality
broke? The XSF hasn't been messing with session management, so my best
guess would be that this broke upstream in 4.3.0. The last 4.2.1
packages are available for most architectures at snapshot.debian.net.
http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2004/02/14/debian/pool/main/x/xfree86/

Please downgrade to that version (or install it in a chroot).

2) Can you provide a recipe for reproducing this problem? I have to admit
   I don't use xsm myself.

I'm suspecting something like this, yes.

I'll try this, but will not have time this next week.

Set your .xsession or whatever so that it runs eg. fvwm in the
backround, then xsm as session program.

Then when you run session-aware programs, you should see them in the
window open when you click on "client list" in the xsm button. This
includes at least xterm, xemacs, galeon, xchat - I guess all gnome and
kde programs should be seen as well.

I haven't had more time to look into this yet -- sorry. Have you had a
chance to, by trying some 4.2.1 packages?

I will try to give this shot. I apologize, it's just that many "more
important" bugs have piled up ahead of this one.

Hi Yann,

I just tried something like that, and xchat was listed in the client
list. Can you confirm that this bug is fixed?

Cheers,
Julien

No, it is still there. I currently have an xchat, an xterm, xemacs and
firefox running: none of them show in the list, and thus nothing is
restored when I log in.

Best regards,

Hi! I'm closing this bug, since it was tagged "moreinfo" for some
years, without answer. If you have new reasons to point out this
problem, please feel free to re-open it.

Also, since it affected Sarge, I suppose it's not up-to-date anymore.
