Using the normal letter template, I tried to insert a blank line in
the recipient's address using ctl-enter. The effect was supposed to
be
---------------------
Repair Shop
Bit Lane
SF, CA 94000
RMA XYZ
-------------------------
I.e., the blank line was before the RMA.
This proved fatal and I could get no output. Here's what the log
showed:
---------------------------------------------
(Font) <7> on input line 31.
LaTeX Font Info: External font `cmex10' loaded for size
(Font) <5> on input line 31.
! LaTeX Error: There's no line here to end.
See the LaTeX manual or LaTeX Companion for explanation.
Type H <return> for immediate help.

l.31 \opening{Dear Penguin,}
Your command was ignored.
Type I <command> <return> to replace it with another command,
or <return> to continue without it.
-----------------------------------
The error message was very misleading, and I thought something was
badly broken. Deleting the line fixed everything, however.
I suppose this use is slightly outside of the documented useage, but
it seems to me this should work, or at least fail more informatively.
I was using lyx-qt, but I suspect the problem is with the core engine,
and that it is upstream.
I'd rate severity minor except that this problem makes it impossible
to produce a letter, and gives the appearance that something is badly
broken.
package lyx-qt tags 271233 moreinfo thanks my robot friend Hi there, sorry for taking so long to respond; could you provide a sample file which demonstrates this problem? I can't seem to reproduce it with some playing with the letter class. Thanks, -rob

Sorry for the slowness of my response too :) I've attached a file illustrating the problem, at least on my system... Currently at version 1.3.4-2. Ross
