There's no way of turning off the verbose progress indicator.
I have a cron job that makes a backup at night (all the user needs to do
is replace the DVD during the day), and that job now always produces
email with a lot of totally useless progress output complete with
backspaces. A simple --quiet option (or just -q) would be very useful.

It also doesn't help that dvd+rw-format doesn't have any manpage...
