Please make commit-email accept an extra option to specify a table of committers, /etc/passwd style (notably, it'd be nice if by default the system's getent is used, or at least it's configurable to use it). In addition, it should also accept a simpler format. This would allow commit mails to be sent out with a full From: header of the committer. Given this entry: jeroen:Jeroen van Wolffelaar:jeroen@wolffelaar.nl or, this entry: jeroen:x:1000:1001:Jeroen van Wolffelaar,,,:/home/jeroen:/bin/bash a From: header of "Jeroen van Wolffelaar <jeroen@wolffelaar.nl>" should be contructed then. Please let me know if you'd accept a patch in principle implementing this feature, as I'll then write one.
Hi Jeroen, * Jeroen van Wolffelaar <jeroen@wolffelaar.nl> [2004-12-02 20:38:13 +0100]: I would like to see this feature as well. I am strongly choose the first one for several reasons; like contains the email address, contains everything what needed (the second one is a bit overkill if you have a mailing list entry, and you have to fake uid/gid etc, and also mistakeable by the ',' for example). First the warning: I am a co-maintainer of Subversion, but David has a veto right on committing anything. Anyway, I would like to see and test any patch you propose. Regards, Laszlo/GCS Ps: Any news about Bernd S. Brentrup? As far as I can remember Martin (DPL) referred his availability to you.
It was meant as an addition, to also _accept_ those. For example, on a subversion setup at my study association, I'd point email-commit.pl to the system's user table, and thus don't need to maintain a table of names. Email addresses are to be generated the same way as they are now (appending a configurable fixed domain). I'll make something. Thanks, --Jeroen
* Jeroen van Wolffelaar <jeroen@wolffelaar.nl> [2004-12-02 22:07:21 +0100]: Well, I still do not get it. The system's user table 101% will contain entries that you do not want to send commit mails (root, postmaster or dumb system users like list, proxy, www-data). You can get that from /etc/mailname . Thanks in advance, and sorry that I do not have time to do it on my own. Regards, Laszlo/GCS
Hi, In general I'd like to see changes like this integrated into upstream directly rather than adding the feature just for Debian. I'd like to avoid maintaining non-Debian-specific changes to the Subversion packages as it is more maintenance, and generally useful features should be generally available. I'm hinting here that you could make this suggestion, along with a patch, on the subversion mailing list (subversion.tigris.org). If the patch gets accepted into upstream then we ar all set. We can either back-port it to the version in Debian, or else the new feature will automatically appear.
tags 283992 upstream thanks I'd be happy to commit such a patch to the upstream Subversion project, if you still feel like writing it. Max.
