Click on the icewm logo in the lower left corner of the screen. Now
type "l" to enter the logout menu. Notice we are given only one choice
from the logout menus, as opposed to all the choices that we are can
see if we used the mouse to click again as opposed to just typing "l".

In firefox etc. ALT letter gives all the choices, but in icewm's menu,
one is somehow just given one of the choices. One thought that
letters could always be shortcuts for the mouse, e.g. for disabled
users, but apparently there are drawbacks to using letters.

Hi,

even now, over a decade later, I still don't know what you were talking
about. Of course you get a choice there. If there are multiple entries
for a hotkey then pushing the same hotkey again focuses the next
possible entry, etc.

Eduard.

I see what I am talking about.

If one types "l" it is the same as just
clicking the word "Logout" in the menu.

[ Logout | >]

Instead, it should be the same as clicking the ">" to the right of the
word Logout.

Otherwise nobody can access Reboot, Shutdown, etc. via the keyboard!

If they really want to logout, then the proper sequence would be "l" "l".

Currently there is no way to get that far, as the whole 2nd layer menu
is inaccessible from the keyboard!

Hallo,

Not always. It depends on whether there are alternatives for the 'l'
hotkey (depends on the locale). If there are none it will open the
submenu immediately and move the focus into it.

If there are multiple alternatives then no. Because you are probably
going to press the hotkey multiple times and when it suddenly opens the
submenu and highjacks the focus, that would be hardly user-friendly.

What do you mean? You can enter and collapse submenues with left/right
arrow buttons on your keyboard... that is what '>' icon indicates.
Pretty intuitive, IMHO.

As said, it works with left/right cursor button just naturally, and has
done so since I can remember.

Any other objections remaining?

Regards,
Eduard.
