on my system the wtmp is getting very big. And i think it is from mgetty
(since i have mgetty running, but the modem is switched off).

It would be not so bad if mgetty is logging anything, but:

2root@lina:/var/log# echo -n > wtmp
(after a few seconds)
2root@lina:/var/log# ls -ls wtmp
   3 -rw-r--r-- 1 root adm 2688 Jan 29 03:15 wtmp
2root@lina:/var/log# strings wtmp
2root@lina:/var/log# last

wtmp begins Fri Jan 29 03:14:19 1999

-> no(?) tool can read the additional wtmp info (about broken modem init?)

Greetings
Bernd

I vote to close the ticket but with respect to Salvaging Team as current
maintainer I leave it up to you.

Closing because it is out-dated and there was no activity. No
activity means also no interest from original maintainer nor the
reporter. The package
is obviously not actively maintained anymore.

This happens in interest of Debian GNU/Linux project because it harms
the
project keeping tickets of that age open without any activity, decision
or
action taken.
