Hi,
Mozilla Thunderbird doesn't seem to recognize that in a quoted From
at the beginning, like such: ">From blah blah", the quote mark should
be removed. This seems to be a problem only in local folders, not in
remote IMAP folders, but check the following lines in Thunderbird to make
sure:

From (this line begins with "From ")

To reproduce in local folders:

1) In "Tools->Account Settings->Local Folders", set "Local Directory" to
$HOME/mail or some other directory containing mbox-style folders.
Exit Thunderbird.

2) Use a text editor to insert the string ">From " (without quotes)
at the beginning of some line of message body in one of the mbox files.

2) After restarting Thunderbird, have it take a look at the message
that now contains the string ">From " at the beginning of a line.

3) Thunderbird shows the exact same string, ">From ",
without stripping off the ">" in the display as it is supposed to.

(I know it's expecting mbox format because if a message contains an
_un_quoted "From " at the beginning of a line, Thunderbird gets confused
and thinks that marks the start of a new email.)

cf. mbox format documentation, e.g. http://www.qmail.org/man/man5/mbox.html

Hi,

you receive this mail because you submitted a bug report
to the mozilla-thunderbird package.

If you already received this message, because you had an important
bug open, just ignore it.

Mozilla Thunderbird is quiet popular and thus has lots of bugs open.
Verifying one by one with each release on my own would be a really
hard task, so I heavily depend on the testing and quality feedback
of the package users.

As you might have noticed Thunderbird 0.9 has been released about a
week ago. Finally I have uploaded a package for that version to my
preview and backports repository. The apt lines can be found at [1].

In addition to testing the upgrade path I ask you for help to verify
if your bug is still present. So please take a minute or two and
install the preview package to look if everything is fine and if your
bug is still present. The preview package is currently build for
sarge, so if you encounter any problems installing them in unstable,
let me know! I might build another version for the current sid too!

And remember, please drop a note to your bug report mentioning the
outcome of your test.

Note: If you encounter any new bugs or upgrade bugs in the new
package, please don't post them to the debian BTS by now, since I
will try to fix as many as possible before I upload it to the debian
archives. Just send them to me with the subject line starting with
'[previewbug]'.

Thanks for all your help testing and improving and actually caring
for this package.

Cheers,

Alexander

re: handling of "\n>From " text in message bodies:

nope, this isn't fixed yet as of 0.9-3. (Didn't expect it to be, since
the bug is still open upstream in Bugzilla.)

well, that's 0 for 3 in the moz-thunderbird bugs I submitted :-( Thanks
for your efforts in packaging 0.9, though. Would you like the binary
packages I built for it on powerpc?

regards,
