If the .signature file is a FIFO (and driven by a program like Signify)
then Thunderbird will hang indefinitely when it tries to read a user's
signature.

Other programs ("cat", for example) do not have this problem.

Yes, I could reproduce this and it is known to upstream. I will try the patch
available in the bug report and will try revive the upstream bug, so they know
again.
