hi,

if a msg has an url like:

  imap://user@host/folder/
  imap://user@host/folder/msg
  imaps://user@host/folder/msg

IceDove treats them as mailto: links.
bviously, it should instead try to access that folder/msg via the advertised
protocol.

if url is:

  imaps://user@host/folder/

it's not even recognized as URL (not highlighted).

severiy 407206 wishlist

this is a wishlist bug. Can you take a look at bugzilla.mozilla.org
and try to find the existing thunderbird bug? I am pretty sure that
there is alreay such a bug. If you find it, please drop it here.

Thanks,

 - Alexander

so, an imap client that doesn't know how to handle imap url sounds like
a 'wishlist'? how about a web browser that doesn't know about http url?

I guess that's pkg maintainer biz :)

OTOH, I'm too pretty sure there's such a bug already on moz's bts, as well
as reg. other protocols. I'm also afraid they're pretty old - guess I
reported somesuch back in 200[34].

thanks

... we depend on the help of the community ... if you help to point
out the upstream bug, I can help to make it more visible
upstream. Otherwise, I won't.

I am pretty sure too ... that's why I won't put much work in dealing
with this bug. They know about this missing feature ... if they don't
want to improve it, there is not much we can do atm.

seems there are different opinions among .deb maintaners wrt their duties
on such bugreps. I see no much point reporting here, if you don't care
to look it up yourself for the most appropriate entry upstream, and bug
them in turn as .deb maint.

luckily, there are alternatives. I'm kind of more than annoyed by moz*.org
stuff getting so 'smarter' that break to much thing on each upgrade ...

thanks

First, I WILL deal with all issues reported as good as possible ...
at some point. The more you help, the better I can do that.

Second, it still makes sense to post it here:

+ from time to time I review wishlist bugs and try to implement
those I find most important on my own. If I cannot implement them,
I will look-up the current state at upstream and bug them if
   necessary/suitable.
+ the better a bug is documented the easier for me to work on it at
   that point.
+ other users might get the proper path to the upstream bug in order
   to bug on their own.

So, by contributing to this bug you show me that its important to you
and I am more likely willing to consider your feature request as
"important" the next time I review wishlist bugs.

I'm not sure which is the right bug to track this wishlist bug on
Mozilla side.

It's a pity to pass more time on arguing than just performing the search
on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=imap+url ..
