found, that mail-names in Maildir/new did inlcude the additional white-spaces I also found
in /etc/hostname. ("linux-box.lan   ")
--> "1167134103.H149546P2547.linux-box.lan\ \ \ "

I have filed a new bug against initscripts (#447352) suggesting input
sanitazion before setting the actual hostname in
/etc/init.d/hostname.sh, and have forwarded this bug to upstream, also
suggesting input sanitazion in case of strange hostnames.

I think this is all I can do for the moment.

Greetings
Marc
