In order to display accented characters correctly from
file:///usr/share/doc/* urls (ie Debian-supplied documentation), I had
to have the following settings in the lynx-cur options menu:

Display and Character Set
  Use locale-based character set(!): [OFF]
Display character set : [UNICODE (UTF-8)________________]
  Assumed document character set(!): [utf-8___________]
  Raw 8-bit (!) : [ON_]
  X Display (!) :
:0_________________________________________

Should this setting be default for lynx-cur, or should there be an
option to specify a default character set for file:/// url's?

Hi Arthur,

You can save this setting in "~/.lynxrc". It is not
enough for you?

I don't think there is any option to specify something only
for file:/// url's but I guess lynx-cur-wrapper might
do what you want to some extent but, perhaps, not so
clever yet. If you try it and find any improvement, please
let me know.

Sorry to be so late and thanks for your reporting.
