	Hi.

The ams type1 fonts are not registered by defoma to use within
grace package. lmoderm package register the fonts. With this fonts
advanced mathematical formulae can be insert in xmgrace, so please added
this fonts to xmgrace.
	Thanks in advance.

Hi Fabiano, hi all!

Yes, we know. Could you or one of the grace team help writing a defoma
hints file for all those fonts? Take a look at the lmodern font package
on how this could look like.

We will eventually do this, but for sure not in the next release. But
thanks for reminding us.

Best wishes

Uhh, that makes 109 fonts.

Who will write USEFUL defoma-hints for all these fonts???

I won't have time in the near and far future. If someone of the xmgrace
people can help out here it would be great. I am quite sure I cannot do
it.

Many thanks for the work!
Well, I can't say. I don't understand so much about fonts and their
properties. Ralf, can you evaluate the work?
I guess this is fine. Other font design sizes are only useful for
TeX-like applications.

Norbert, regarding the packaging: I guess I have to append the three
files to each other, rename the resulting file texlive-base.hints and
put it into texlive-new/texlive-base/debian. The dh_installdefoma
command has to go into texlive-new/all/debian/rules.in, right?

What else is needed to make grace/X11 etc. aware of the fonts? Is
registering them to defoma sufficient?

Thanks,
  Hilmar

the credits to Robert Vallian for the script. Thanks Robert Vallian.
I did it. Put all hints in one file called texlive-base.hints anf is
attached.
I think so. I did the command
# defoma-font register-all texlive-base.hints
and grace uses the fonts. I think for X11 is necessary to generate the
fonts.conf file, right?
	Thanks,
	Fabiano.

HI Hilmar,

first of, thanks for taking care of that.

Puuuh, I have honestly forgotten all that stuff. Probably best is to
look into svn/lmodern/trunk/debian/rules, let's see what we find:

For plain X we need a
	texlive-what-bin-package.scale
in lmodern we create that from the defoma-hints file, see there.

Also from that file we create a
	texlive-what-bin-package.fontlist-x11

Then we have to set up links, because X11 neets the fonts and I mean
.pfb and .afm files in the same place. So eg putting all the links into
/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1/.

Then we have to copy the .scale file to /etc/X11/fonts/Type1 and call
dh_installxfonts, and also dh_installdefoma.

Loads of things to do. And anyway to late for lenny. So probably we
start that when we are going to package 2008 (which I am currenty
doing).

But PLEASE if you can work in that direction, please do so!!!

Best wishes

Anyway, I have noticed two things: These fonts are not really in
ISO8856-1 encoding. Probably adobe-fontspecific would be more
appropriate. Also, bitstream as foundry is not correct. Maybe best to
use misc or something like that. Besides that, everything looks fine
to me.

Hi,
For now I'd suggest only to register these fonts to defoma. Creating
links in /usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1/ would need another new package
...-x11 and lenny is frozen. Putting the hints file into the package
and call dh_installdefoma should not hurt and could bring some gain
for users.

Why? We don't need to ship an -x11 package only because we ship X11
fonts?

Ok. But are you sure that *that* qualifies for lenny?

Hi,
Was that a question? It would be good (IMHO) if links sitting in
/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1 would go into an extra package. Firstly
not all TeX users need them, secondly one could put X11 into a name
to make sure the X11 users find this package more easily.
We're in freeze, I forgot. Sorry!

Greets,

Hi,
From Paul Wise we got the following E-Mail regarding defoma
integration:

<snip>
It would be much better to export them to fontconfig instead, I plan
to remove defoma from Debian for squeeze.

To add support for fontconfig you have two options:

Install the fonts in /usr/share/fonts/opentype/something instead.

Add a config file /etc/fonts/conf.avail/90-something.conf and a
symlink to it in /etc/fonts/conf.d/. The config file should contain
this:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "/etc/fonts/fonts.dtd">
<fontconfig>
   <dir>/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype/public</dir>
</fontconfig>

<snap>

I guess we need now fontconfig integration instead of defoma. THe
mentioned config file should be trivial, but I don't about the
packaging.

Thanks,
  Hilmar
