My recorder is BENQ DW1640, connected to a thinkpad by USB. It can burn CD-R and CD-RW well, but has problem with DVD. Hi, I have been chasing down this issue myself and I believe it is the same as this issue: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=455728 I have determined that it is unlikely to be a kernel issue because the cdrtools package that cdrkit package was forked from a bazillion years ago does not produce this issue. You can grab the source and build a deb package of the cdrtools from here if you want to get around it for now: http://deb.grml.org/pool/main/c/cdrtools/ I'll add more notes to #455728 about this issue in a separate email. Hi, I'm experiencing DVD burning problems which I think may have the same origin as this bug. I recently upgraded to squeeze and found myself not able to burn DVD anymore. I was using gnomebaker. Then I saw it was kinda obsolete, so I turned to brasero. I installed the cdrecord transition package that was apparently missing. Now, I'm trying wodim directly from the command-line to chase down the bug. What's also strange is that after wodim reports the bug, my DVD drive continues to run and I have to halt my computer to stop it :-) I think that the process that seems to make my drive running is : root 4870 4133 0 11:58 ? 00:00:00 /sbin/blkid -o udev -p -u noraid /dev/sr0 or root 4959 4133 0 12:04 ? 00:00:00 /lib/udev/devkit-disks-part-id /dev/sr0 Anyway, please find he output of wodim dev=/dev/sr0 fs=14M speed=8 -dao -v brasero.iso hereunder. Can you help me to solve this bug? Best regards, Cyrille cyb@mickey:~/data$ wodim dev=/dev/sr0 fs=14M speed=8 -dao -v brasero.iso TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM wodim: Operation not permitted.
