For some reason icedove seems to mimic Outlook's behaviour w.r.t. LDAP address books, assuming that they are read-only. Since openLDAP/slapd can be configured to allow write privileges over secure connections, is this necessary? It would be great to be able to update one's address book from the application that actually uses it. At the moment icedove pops up a nice-looking box for a contact with fields that could be editable, but it doesn't let you change anything. (Yeah I know, I could always switch to Evolution.) severity 462516 wishlist thanks I have now found this thread - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86405 which explains the slow progress of LDAP write access in the Mozilla codebase. Looks like it might not be too far away now (months rather than years). CC This e-mail may contain information which is confidential, legally privileged and/or copyright protected. I added an openldap addressbook to icedove (thunderbird) the binding has full write access. I was very disappointed to see that I could not use the ldap addressbook as a normal addressbook and create new contacts, move them, use them, list them etcetera. I would like to see the following features: - use a RFC-compliant schema for contacts - follow permissions of the ldap server - allow full copying from and to local contacts and other ldap servers - add some option to disable and remove all local contacts - make it possible to list all contacts in the ldap addressbook - use the ldap addressbook system to complete email fields In other words I would like these features to make it more enterprise ready. I am willing to donate money for this, how much would be needed to get all the features that I listed? icedove --version Mozilla-Thunderbird 2.0.0.19, Copyright (c) 1998-2008 mozilla.org dpkg -l icedove icedove 2.0.0.19-1 free/unbranded thunderbird mail/news/rss clone Best regards, Jelle de Jong
Could you please check out the latest thunderbird 3 comm-1.9.1 nightlies and verify if those issues still exist? If so, please file individual bugs for every feature in bugzilla.mozilla.org and give us your bug ids so we can properly track the progress there and help out. Thanks! - Alexander
